Orienting Ourselves in Space and Time: A Sacred Pause
Orienting Ourselves in Space and Time: A Sacred Pause
As we step into this new month, let’s take a moment to ground ourselves by looking to the natural rhythms that guide us— the moon cycle, the seasons, and the astrological happenings in the sky. These cosmic markers offer us a profound way to orient ourselves, not just in space and time but within the deeper currents of our lives.
Tomorrow, September 1st, we’ll be under the influence of the Virgo Dark Moon, a sacred pause inviting us to go within and seek vision for the cycle ahead. We are also immersed in Virgo Season, which will carry us through until the Fall Equinox—a time of balance, reflection, and preparation for the descent into winter.
Virgo: The Embodiment of the Priestess Archetype
Virgo energy is often misunderstood. While she is associated with meticulousness and organization, her essence goes far beyond these surface-level traits. Virgo embodies the archetype of the Priestess—wise, devoted, and deeply connected to the Earth and the cycles of life. She is not merely a perfectionist or an efficient “boss babe”; she is the sacred keeper of rituals, understanding that every detail is a thread in the larger tapestry of life, woven with intention and care.
Ruled by Mercury, Virgo masters the art of communication, not just in human interactions but as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. She listens deeply to the whispers of Earth, the patterns of the stars, and the cycles of nature, translating these subtle energies into grounded, actionable wisdom. Her purity isn’t about innocence or maidenhood; it’s about being a clear channel for the divine, a vessel through which higher knowledge flows.
Virgo often appears with symbols of nature—flowing fabric, delicate flowers, and a gentle touch that reflects her nurturing spirit. She draws inspiration from the ethers and brings it into the material world, turning dreams into reality with precision and care. Her connection to Earth runs deep, knowing that true mastery comes from honoring the cycles of nature and living in harmony with them.
Virgo’s Invitation: Sacred Service, Self-Care, and Connection to the Earth
As a mutable sign, Virgo helps us ground back down from summer’s expansive energy, inviting us to return to routines and rituals of self-care. She encourages us to connect with the land, the plants, and the cosmos, listening for the ways in which we can be of sacred service.
But sacred service isn’t just about our jobs or how we make money; it’s about the way we tend to the Earth, our relationships, and the small, daily acts that weave the web of life. It’s in these moments that Virgo’s energy shines, reminding us that every detail matters and that living with intention is a form of devotion.
The Approach of the Fall Equinox: A Time of Balance and Reflection
As we move closer to the Fall Equinox—just three weeks away—we prepare for a profound shift. The Equinox is the point where the light of the day and the dark of the night are in perfect balance, marking the beginning of our descent into winter. This is a sacred time to pause and reflect, to find balance within ourselves as we transition into a new season.
In the teachings of the Medicine Wheel, the Fall Equinox marks our movement into the direction of the West. The West is the realm of introspection, healing, and the deep inner work that leads to transformation. It’s where we can end old cycles, evolve out of limiting patterns, and bring to completion the processes we’ve been working on. This is the time to turn inward, connect with our emotional world, face our shadows, and heal the parts of ourselves that seek integration.
Embracing the West: A Journey of Healing and Transformation
The West represents the powerful journey of moving through life’s challenges with courage and resilience. It’s the place of the setting sun, where we reflect, release what no longer serves, and embrace the wisdom that comes from our experiences. This direction teaches us the importance of honoring our emotional landscape, cultivating empathy and compassion for ourselves and others, and embracing the cycles of death and rebirth as natural parts of our journey.
In Vitalist Medicine, the West invites us to work with herbs and practices that support emotional healing, shadow work, and deep rest. It’s about surrendering to the process, trusting in the body’s innate wisdom, and allowing the natural flow of life to guide our healing.
Through connecting with the West, we empower ourselves to navigate the depths of our being, emerging with greater clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of purpose. It’s about finding balance and harmony within, so we can rise with the dawn of a new day, ready to step forward on our path with renewed vitality and confidence.
Working with the Waters of the West
In the Medicine Wheel, the element associated with the West is Water, which is connected to themes such as dreamtime, depth, emotions, the subconscious, surrender, forgiveness, dissolution, shadow work, adaptability, intuition, empathy, and psychic perception.
One of my favorite ways to work with the water element is through flower and gem essences. These vibrational medicines are gentle yet powerful tools that help us align with the subtle energies of nature and our own inner wisdom.
Flower essences are energetic imprint of the flower and are used to address emotional and mental states. Gem essences work similarly, capturing the vibrational essence of a gemstone. Both are used to support emotional balance, enhance spiritual connection, and promote overall well-being. They are amazing guides in helping us to reprogram the subconscious through working with the Bodies waters.
